NOTE: |
|
D. | Concurrent Requirements |
None. |
E. | Reason |
(1) | Objective: |
To introduce new parts. |
(2) | Condition: |
The old upper OGV pylon, lower OGV pylon, and OGVs are made using a combination of sheet metal and castings that are welded together. This is a complicated design that requires extensive labor and difficult welding operations. The proposed change will replace the upper OGV pylon and OGVs under the mount with three titanium bondments. In addition, the lower OGV pylon will be replaced with an aluminum bondment. |
(3) | Cause: |
The new design provides an estimated performance improvement of 0.1 percent fan efficiency. The plug P/N 2410M25G01 and seal 2410M24G01 cannot be installed on the new bonded pylon designs and therefore they need to be eliminated from the parts list. |
(4) | Improvement: |
The upper OGV pylon, lower OGV pylon, and OGVs new designs will have a simplified construction. This will also result in an improved surface condition. |
This Service Bulletin improves the specific fuel consumption (SFC) by 0.06 percent. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis. |
F. | Approval |
