This Service Bulletin is applicable to all GEnx-1B engines.
This Service Bulletin has been introduced in production to these GEnx-1B engines:
•
GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-111, 956-128, and up.
These serial numbers are the best available data.
Engines 956-110, 956-114 thru 956-127 will be retrofitted per field plan.
Engines 956-102 thru 956-109, 956-112, and 956-113 will be retrofitted prior to revenue service.
B.Description
The old upper seal retainer P/N 2402M33P01 is affected by this Service Bulletin.
This Service Bulletin introduces a new upper seal retainer P/N 2402M33P02.
C.Compliance
Category 7
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's convenience.
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be accomplished on wing.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new parts and rework parts.
(2)Condition:
The current upper seal retainer increases a problem with a potential clash with a bolt head in the thrust reverser door.
(3)Cause:
The upper seal retainer touches the thrust reverser door bolt.
(4)Improvement:
New upper seal retainer eliminates a potential clash with the thrust reverser bolt head.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis.

This Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
No additional man-hours are required to comply with this Service Bulletin.
H.Weight and Balance
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin decreases weight by 0.20 lb (0.09 kg).

D.Parts Disposition
The upper seal retainer P/N 2402M33P01 installed on engines 956-110 and 956-114 thru 956-121 is to be removed and replaced with the upper seal retainer P/N 2428M03P01 prior to ferry flight test.
Send the upper seal retainer P/N 2402M33P01 back to supplier for rework to the upper seal retainer P/N 2402M33P02. Upon completion of ferry flight, install the upper seal retainer P/N 2402M33P02.
Introduction of the upper seal retainer P/N 2402M33P02 in production must be done before shipment to engine serial numbers 956-111, 956-128, and up.

3.ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A.General
(1)Removal and installation procedures for the upper seal retainer have not changed. Refer to the GEnx-1B EM, 72-21-00, DISASSEMBLY 001 and ASSEMBLY 001.
