1.PLANNING INFORMATION
A.Effectivity
* * * FOR GEnx-1B54, -1B58, -1B64, -1B67, -1B70
This Service Bulletin has been introduced in production to this GEnx-1B engine:
GEnx-1B engine, serial numbers 956-147 and up.
These serial numbers are the best available data.
The old cowl supports P/N 2360M69G01 and P/N 2360M69G02 are affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin introduces improved cowl supports P/N 2419M65G01, P/N 2419M65G02, and associated hardware.
C.Compliance
Category 7
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's option.
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be accomplished on wing or in shop.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To reduce weight.
(2)Condition:
Initial cowl support design was not optimized for weight.
(3)Cause:
The old cowl support has features that require extensive milling to form.
(4)Improvement:
The contours of the cowl support and the bridge brackets are revised to improve RTV sealing between the components and prevent performance losses due to air leakage from the engine to the thrust reverser interface. Structural improvements such as bridge bracket bolt hole embossments reduce the stress on the cowl support.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis.
F.Approval
This Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
No additional man-hours are required to comply with this Service Bulletin.
H.Weight and Balance
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin decreases weight by 0.24 lb (0.11 kg).
