This Service Bulletin introduces improved cowl supports P/N 2419M65G01, P/N 2419M65G02, and associated hardware. |

E. | Reason |
(1) | Objective: |
To reduce weight. |
(2) | Condition: |
Initial cowl support design was not optimized for weight. |
(3) | Cause: |
The old cowl support has features that require extensive milling to form. |
(4) | Improvement: |
The contours of the cowl support and the bridge brackets are revised to improve RTV sealing between the components and prevent performance losses due to air leakage from the engine to the thrust reverser interface. Structural improvements such as bridge bracket bolt hole embossments reduce the stress on the cowl support. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis. |

B. | Installation |
(1) | Installation instructions for the cowl supports (1 and 2, Figure 1) have not changed. Refer to the GEnx-1B, 72-00-02 ASSEMBLY 005. |
(2) | Install the cover plate (30-150, 72-00-02) as follows: |
(a) | Install the cover plate (30-150, 72-00-02) on the cowl support (1) with four bolts (30-160, 72-00-02). |
(b) | Torque the bolts in a criss cross pattern to 106-124 lb in. (12.9-14.0 Nm). |
