C. | Compliance |
Category 7 |
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's option. |
Impact E |
This recommendation is to improve the cost of ownership, reduce maintenance requirements or is a product improvement. |
NOTE: |
|
D. | Concurrent Requirements |
None. |
E. | Reason |
(1) | Objective: |
To introduce new parts, improve maintainability, and reduce weight. |
(2) | Condition: |
The current lever arm system uses three different lever arm designs for the four stages of the VSV system. The shape of these designs was found to make these arms heavier than necessary. In addition, the current actuation ring designs have a thin extension feature on both ends (at the horizontal split flange) which made tooling access to one of the split line bolts difficult. |
(3) | Cause: |
The current configuration lever arms and actuation rings had not been evaluated for possible part design simplification. |
(4) | Improvement: |
The new lever arm design has been simplified so that the lever arm shape is consistent for all four stages and it is lighter than the current lever arm designs. The new actuation rings remove the thin extension feature on both ends to allow tool access to split line bolt and reduce weight. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by analysis, comparative analysis, and test. |
F. | Approval |
This Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin. |
G. | Manpower |
No additional man-hours are required to comply with this Service Bulletin. |
H. | Weight and Balance |
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin decreases weight by 4.0 lb (1.8 kg). |
