This Service Bulletin has been introduced in production to these GEnx-1B engines:

GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-133 through 956-139.
These serial numbers are the best available data.
The turbine frame P/N 2304M99G10 is affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin releases a new turbine frame P/N 2304M99G17 to the engine illustrated parts catalog (EIPC).

E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new part and to reduce weight.
(2)Condition:
The turbine frame contains an integral cast and machined boss on the inner diameter of the hub at strut No. 2 that is sealed with a cover plate, a metal gasket, and two bolts. The cover plate, metal gasket and two bolts are no longer necessary.
(3)Cause:
The boss at strut No. 2 is typically used for instrumentation lead out for the development and compliance test programs. However, instrumentation provisions are no longer required on the engine program.
(4)Improvement:
The removal of the strut No. 2 boss and associated sealing hardware reduces the weight of the turbine frame assembly.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by comparative analysis.

This Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
No additional man-hours are required to comply with this Service Bulletin.
H.Weight and Balance
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin decreases weight by 0.55 lb (0.25 kg).

3.ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A.Disassembly
(1)Disassembly and assembly instructions for the turbine frame have not changed except the cover plate, metal gasket, and bolts are no longer installed in the engine. Refer to the GEnx-1B EM, 72-54-00, DISASSEMBLY 001 and ASSEMBLY 001.
