SB 72-0095 R00 ENGINE - High Pressure Turbine Stage 1 Nozzle Assembly (72-51-00) - Introduction of New HPT Stage 1 Nozzle Assembly | Issued: 06/04/2012 | |
1. | PLANNING INFORMATION |
A. | Effectivity |
|
This Service Bulletin has been introduced in production to these GEnx-1B engines: |
• |
|
These serial numbers are the best available data. |
The stage 1 nozzles P/N 2300M24G11, P/N 2300M24G12, and the HPT nozzle support P/N 2303M22G03 are affected by this Bulletin. |
B. | Description |
This Service Bulletin provides an improved configuration of the stage 1 nozzles P/N 2482M59G01, P/N 2482M59G02, and the HPT nozzle support P/N 2303M22G04. |
C. | Compliance |
Category 7 |
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's option. |
NOTE: |
|
D. | Concurrent Requirements |
None. |
E. | Reason |
(1) | Objective: |
To introduce new parts and improve reliability. |
(2) | Condition: |
The new stage 1 nozzles P/N 2482M59G01, P/N 2482M59G02, and the HPT nozzle support P/N 2303M22G04 have a different mount interface, making the retention of the stage 1 nozzles P/N 2482M59G01 and P/N 2482M59G02 better. |
At the nozzle segment inner band a two pins mount feature is replaced with a single pin design. The second retention pin is replaced with a ship lap anti-rotation feature. |
Also, the spline seals that are located between the stage 1 nozzle segments are replaced with a thicker spline seal. |
When these design features are incorporated, the durability of the stage 1 nozzles will be better under operating conditions for the GEnx-1B. |
(3) | Cause: |
During the GEnx-1B 75.000 pounds of thrust certification test, distress was noted on the stage 1 nozzles P/N 2300M24G11 and P/N 2300M24G12 and interface with the HPT nozzle support P/N 2303M22G03 which require the introduction of improvements in durability. |
(4) | Improvement: |
The new stage 1 nozzles P/N 2482M59G01 and P/N 2482M59G02 inner bands, spline seals, and braze joints have been modified to make part durability better. The new forward inner nozzle support has been modified to mate with the nozzle mounting changes. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis. |
F. | Approval |
This Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin. |
G. | Manpower |
No additional man-hours are required to comply with this Service Bulletin. |
H. | Weight and Balance |

The new stage 1 nozzles P/N 2482M59G01 and P/N 2482M59G02, HPT nozzle support P/N 2303M22G04, and spline seals must be introduced as a complete set. All parts are one-way interchangeable. |
A mixture of parts from current stage 1 nozzles P/N 2305M55G02 and new stage 1 nozzles P/N 2305M55G04 in the same CDN assembly is not permitted. |
