B.Description
This Service Bulletin introduces two machine bolts P/N AS3237-08 and flat washers P/N AN960C416 to the Engine Illustrated Parts Catalog (EIPC) and Engine Manual (EM) and provides installation procedures for machine bolts and flat washers on a boss on the aft side of the fan hub frame near the 9:00 oclock aft looking forward (ALF) location.

(1)Objective:
Introduce hardware to plug two open insert holes on the aft side of the fan hub frame.
(2)Condition:
The open holes permit air flow through a fire wall.
(3)Cause:
Engineering drawing oversight.
(4)Improvement:
The added hardware seals the open holes in the fire wall.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by comparative analysis.

G.Manpower
After you get access to the fan hub frame module, you will need approximately 0.30 man-hours for each engine to complete the hardware installation.

3.ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A.Getting access to the fan hub frame
(1)Move the variable stator vanes (VSV) to the open position. Refer to GEnx-1B Boeing 787, AMM DMC-B787-A-G71-00-00-53B-110B-A.
(2)Remove the cooling air duct (05-010, 75-23-10) as follows. Refer to Figure 1.
(a)Remove the hose clamp (05-080A) and disconnect the cooling air duct (05-010) from the exciter cooling manifold (05-020).
(b)Remove the hose clamp (05-080A) and disconnect the cooling air duct (05-010) from the exciters cooling tube (05-040).
(c)Remove the hose clamp (05-075) and disconnect the cooling air duct (05-010) from the core cooling air plug (05-050).
(d)Remove the hose clamp (05-075) and disconnect the cooling air duct (05-010) from the CAC air tube (05-030).
(e)Remove the hose clamp (05-070A) and disconnect the cooling air duct (05-010) from the configuration box (01-010, 73-21-55).
(f)Remove the hose clamp (05-060, 75-23-10) and remove the cooling air duct (05-010) from the VBV air duct (01-190).
(g)Keep all the removed parts for later installation.
B.Installation of the new machine bolts and flat washers
(1)Install the new machine bolts (1, Figure 2) and flat washers (2) as follows:
WARNING:
REFER TO THE PRODUCT LABEL AND THE MANUFACTURERS (MATERIAL) SAFETY DATA SHEET FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON THE HAZARDS, STORAGE, SAFE HANDLING AND PROPER USE OF THIS PRODUCT.
(a)Clean the threads of the inserts on the fan hub frame (10-400, 72-25-00) with isopropyl alcohol (C04-035) and a cotton swab.
(b)Install the flat washers on the machine bolts.
(c)Apply anti-seize (C02-058) to the threads of the two machine bolts.
(d)Install the machine bolts and flat washers into the open inserts on the fan hub frame.
(e)Torque the machine bolts to 109-121 lb in. (12.3-13.7 N.m).
C.Installation of the removed parts
(1)Put the hose clamp (05-060, 75-23-10) on the VBV air duct (01-190) and connect the cooling air duct (05-010) with all its outlets aligned with their tubes to the VBV air duct (01-190). Move the hose clamp (05-060) to position on the cooling air duct (05-010). Do not torque the hose clamp at this time.
(2)Put the hose clamp (05-070A) on the configuration box (01-010, 73-21-55) and connect the cooling air duct (05-010, 75-23-10) to the configuration box. Move the hose clamp (05-070A) to position on the cooling air duct (05-010). Do not torque the hose clamp at this time.
(3)Put the hose clamp (05-075) on the CAC air tube (05-030) and connect the cooling air duct (05-010) to the CAC air tube (05-030). Move the hose clamp (05-075) to position on the cooling air duct (05-010). Do not torque the hose clamp at this time.
(4)Put the hose clamp (05-075) on the core cooling air plug (05-050) and connect the cooling air duct (05-010) to the core cooling air plug (05-050). Move the hose clamp (05-075) to position on the cooling air duct (05-010). Do not torque the hose clamp at this time.
(5)Put the hose clamp (05-080A) on the exciter cooling manifold (05-020) and connect the cooling air duct (05-010) to the exciter cooling manifold (05-020). Move the hose clamp (05-080A) to position on the cooling air duct (05-010). Do not torque the hose clamp at this time.
(6)Put the hose clamp (05-080A) on the exciters cooling tube (05-040) and connect the cooling air duct (05-010) to the exciters cooling tube (05-040). Move the hose clamp (05-080A) to position on the cooling air duct (05-010). Do not torque the hose clamp at this time.
(7)Torque the hose clamp (05-060), hose clamp (05-070A), hose clamps (05-075), and hose clamps (05-080A) to 32-38 lb in. (3.6-4.3 N.m).
(8)Move the variable stator vanes (VSV) to the closed position. Refer to GEnx-1B Boeing 787, AMM DMC-B787-A-G71-00-00-53B-110B-A.
