All production (ESN 956-272 thru 946-297) and test engines (ESN 946-198, 956-199, 946-200, 956-201, and 956-202) affected will be retrofitted with the fire support nozzle and cap via flight test service instructions (FTSI) and field engineering instruction (FEI). |
This Service Bulletin has been introduced in production to these GEnx-1B engines: |

The fire support nozzle P/N ER5329G01 and tube cap P/N J1315G108 are affected by this Service Bulletin. |
B. | Description |
This Service Bulletin releases a new EBU FD kit P/N 738L103G04 with a new fire support nozzle P/N ER6434G01. |

E. | Reason |
(1) | Objective: |
To introduce a new part. |
(2) | Condition: |
The current fire suppression nozzle system no longer meets the minimum requirements for performance improvement package (PIP) 2 engines. |
(3) | Cause: |
Retesting of the fire extinguisher system was needed to verify continued acceptability with the PIP 2 configuration. Test results showed this design does not meet PIP 2 requirements. |
(4) | Improvement: |
The new proposed design for the fire support nozzle meets fire extinguisher certification requirements for PIP 2 configuration. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by test and administrative changes. |

3. | ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS |
A. | Removal of the Old Fire Support Nozzle |
(1) | Remove the old fire support nozzle (05-010, 71-00-00) as follows: |
CAUTION: |
|
(a) | Remove the B-nut that firmly attaches the old fire support nozzle (05-010) to the fire suppression tube (25-060, 72-00-00). |
(b) | Remove the two machine bolts (25-090) that attach the old fire support nozzle (05-010, 71-00-00) to the fire suppression support bracket (25-200, 72-00-00) and remove the old fire support nozzle (05-010, 71-00-00) from the engine. |

B. | Installation of the New Fire Support Nozzle |
(1) | Install the new fire support nozzle (05-011, 71-00-00) as follows: |
(a) | Put the new fire support nozzle (05-011) onto the fire suppression tube (25-060, 72-00-00) and fire suppression support bracket (25-200). |
(b) | Thread the new fire support nozzle (05-011, 71-00-00) B-nut onto the fitting on the fire suppression tube (25-060, 72-00-00) finger tight only. |
(c) | Align the new fire support nozzle (05-011, 71-00-00) boltholes with the nut plates in the fire suppression support bracket (25-200, 72-00-00) and install two machine bolts (25-090) finger tight only. |
CAUTION: |
|
(d) | Torque the B-nut that connects the new fire support nozzle (05-011, 71-00-00) to the fire suppression tube (25-060, 72-00-00) to 78.2 to 91.8 lb ft (106.0 to 124.4 Nm). |
(e) | Torque the two machine bolts (25-090) to 59.8 to 70.2 lb in. (6.7 to 7.9 Nm). |
