The forward fan containment cases (forward fan cases) P/N 2264M12G03 and P/N 2264M12G04 installed in all pre-PIP GEnx-1B engines are affected by this Service Bulletin.
NOTE:
The fan stator assembly configuration created by this Service Bulletin is not included in the effectivity of the GEnx-1B S/B 72-0309 and GEnx-1B S/B 72-0314.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin provides reference to Repair Documents (RDs) 835-373 and 835-395 to rework the affected forward fan cases to the new P/N 2639M43G01 and P/N 2639M43G02, PIP2 configurations.
 Revision 2 of this Service Bulletin adds the new forward fan cases P/N 2639M43G03 and P/N 2639M43G04, which incorporate the new trench filler core design.

 This recommendation is to improve the cost of ownership, reduce maintenance requirements, or is a product improvement.

This Service Bulletin can be accomplished in shop.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To rework the pre-PIP2 forward fan cases to the PIP2 configuration for installation on field-upgraded GEnx-1B engines.
(2)Condition:
The pre-PIP2 forward fan case configurations do not support the PIP2 engine application.
(3)Cause:
To reuse the existing hardware.
(4)Improvement:
The rework of the existing forward fan case to the GEnx-1B PIP2 configuration can improve performance.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis.

The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA or authorized entity representing the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
After you get access to the forward fan case, you will need approximately 360 man-hours for each engine or component.
H.Weight and Balance
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin increases weight by 13 lb (6 kg) for forward fan case P/N 2639M43G01. Weight is not affected for forward fan case P/N 2639M43G02.

3.ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A.General
(1)Do a general visual inspection on all exposed hardware as follows:
(a)All removed hardware and modules must be visually inspected for continue-time as specified for an assembled engine workscope. Refer to the GEnx-1B CIR, 72-00-00, INSPECTION 001.
(2)Disassemble the aft fan stator case assembly. Refer to the GEnx-1B EM, 72-21-00, DISASSEMBLY 001 and DISASSEMBLY 002 - CONFIGURATION 01.
NOTE:
The forward fan case P/N 2264M12G03 or P/N 2264M12G04 is to be reworked. Refer to RD 835-373.

The repairs referred to below contain complex processes that could affect engine reliability and/or performance. Therefore it is necessary to substantiate the ability and adequacy of a repair source to successfully accomplish the repair. A License Agreement is also required. Information concerning a License Agreement is available from:

(3)Rework the affected forward fan case P/N 2264M12G03 or P/N 2264M12G04. Refer to RD 835-373.
(4)Assemble the PIP2 aft fan stator case assembly as follows:
 (a)Assemble the reworked forward fan case P/N 2639M43G01, P/N 2639M43G02, P/N 2639M43G03, or P/N 2639M43G04 (previously reworked through RD 835-373) with a PIP2 aft fan case P/N 2428M00G05 and other PIP2 hardware. Refer to the GEnx-1B EM, 72-21-00, ASSEMBLY 001 - CONFIGURATION 02 and ASSEMBLY 002 - CONFIGURATION 02.
 (5)With the forward fan case P/N 2639M43G01, P/N 2639M43G02, P/N 2639M43G03, or P/N 2639M43G04 assembled with a PIP2 aft fan case P/N 2428M00G05, rework as specified in RD 835-395.

 B.Optional Forward Fan Case Flowpath Profile for P/N 2446M83G01 or P/N 2446M83G02
(1)Assemble the PIP2 aft fan stator case assembly as follows:
 (a)Assemble the forward fan case P/N 2446M83G01 or P/N 2446M83G02 with a PIP2 aft fan case P/N 2428M00G05 and other PIP2 hardware. Refer to the EM, 72-21-00, ASSEMBLY 001 - CONFIGURATION 02 and ASSEMBLY 002 - CONFIGURATION 02.
 (2)With the forward fan case P/N 2446M83G01 or P/N 2446M83G02 assembled with a PIP2 aft fan case P/N 2428M00G05, rework as specified in RD 835-395.
