The following engine serial numbers (ESNs) were originally built with the forward inner nozzle support (FINS) nut shields P/N 2303M28P01 and P/N 2303M28P02, and should be replaced for serviceability issues only:
GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-101 through 956-197 and 956-212 through 956-225.
The current FINS nut shields P/N 2445M58P01 and P/N 2445M58P02 that must be replaced, were used in the following engines:
GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-198 through 956-211 and 956-226 through 956-663.
This Service Bulletin has been introduced in production to these GEnx-1B engines:
GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-664 and up.
These serial numbers are the best available data.
The FINS nut shields P/N 2445M58P01 and P/N 2445M58P02 are affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin introduces new FINS nut shield P/N 2303M28P02 and alternate FINS nut shield P/N 2303M28P01.
C.Compliance
Category 5
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin as soon as the FINS nut shield is removed from the engine.
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be accomplished in shop.
This Service Bulletin is offered to improve the reliability or performance of your GE product, or to help prevent the occurrence of the event or condition described in this Service Bulletin. If the operator elects not to participate in the bulletin, that decision will be taken into consideration by GE in evaluating future product performance issues that may arise in the operators fleet.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new parts.
(2)Condition:
The current FINS nut shield geometry may result in erosion on the FINS.
(3)Cause:
Intermittent scallop features on the outer diameter of the FINS nut shield have caused the erosion on the FINS.
(4)Improvement:
The new FINS nut shield removes the scallop geometry feature in order to take care of the erosion issue and in addition, a pre-performance improvement plan (PIP) configuration part is reintroduced.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by comparative analysis.
F.Approval
The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the appropriate governmental authority and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
No additional man-hours are required to comply with this Service Bulletin.
H.Weight and Balance
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin increases weight by 0.13 lb (0.06 kg).

All four parts must be replaced with the new configuration concurrently. Mixing of the proposed and superseded configuration in the same engine is not permitted. However, both the proposed prime FINS nut shield P/N 2303M28P02 configuration and alternate FINS nut shield P/N 2303M28P01 configuration can be mixed, depending on what is available.
