1.PLANNING INFORMATION
A.Effectivity
* * * FOR GEnx-1B64/P2, -1B67/P2, -1B70/72/P2, -1B70/75/P2, -1B70C/P2, -1B74/75/P2, -1B76/P2, -1B76A/P2
This Service Bulletin has been introduced in production to these GEnx-1B engines:

GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-794 through 958-057, with radial mixers P/N 2647M53G01 and P/N 2647M54G01.

GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 958-058 and up, with radial mixers P/N 2739M50P02 and P/N 2739M51P02.
These serial numbers are the best available data.
Deleted.
The combustion chamber assembly P/N 2258M80G09, radial mixer P/N 2446M95G01, radial mixer P/N 2446M96G01, outer retainer P/N 2258M91P01, and outer retainer P/N 2258M97P01 are affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin releases new combustion chamber assembly P/N 2258M80G10 and new radial mixers P/N 2647M53G01 and P/N 2647M54G01 for the PIP2 configuration and gives instructions to rework the old combustion chamber assembly to a new part number.
Revision 6 of this Service Bulletin replaces the original MAR-M-509 radial mixers with the latest type design. The new radial mixers P/N 2739M50P02 and P/N 2739M51P02 are made of MAR-M-509 material as single piece casting.
C.Compliance
Category 4
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin when the combustor diffuser nozzle (CDN) module is exposed.
Impact C
This recommendation is to address a condition that may result in a Non-Event operational disruption, Unscheduled Engine Removals (UER), Out-Station-Removals or Aircraft on the Ground (AOG).
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be accomplished in shop.
This Service Bulletin is offered to improve the reliability or performance of your GE product, or to help prevent the occurrence of the event or condition described in this Service Bulletin. If the operator elects not to participate in the bulletin, that decision will be taken into consideration by GE in evaluating future product performance issues that may arise in the operators fleet.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new parts, improve reliability, and reduce significant events.
(2)Condition:
The current configuration of the GEnx-1B PIP2 combustor radial mixers and outer retainers does not meet the high cycle fatigue (HCF) capability requirements related to fuel coupled dynamics. In effect, on some engines the radial mixers develop cracks which lead to earlier engine removals.
(3)Cause:
The condition is caused by higher than predicted combustion acoustics, combined with limited material capability of the current radial mixer and outer retainer design.
(4)Improvement:
This change provides a more durable radial mixer with improved high-cycle fatigue material properties and an outer retainer with improved wear capability.
The as cast radial mixers improve durability when exposed to elevated acoustic levels better than the original L605 radial mixers or MAR-M-509 material parts, which are manufactured using an electro-discharge machining (EDM) process.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by comparative analysis and analysis.
F.Approval
The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA or authorized entity representing the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
No additional man-hours are required to comply with this Service Bulletin.
H.Weight and Balance
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin decreases weight by 0.193 lb (0.088 kg).
