This Service Bulletin has been introduced in production to these GEnx-1B engines:
GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-690 and up.
These serial numbers are the best available data.
The mid fan shaft P/N 2332M81G04 is affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin introduces a new mid fan shaft P/N 2332M81G05 with improved corrosion resistance coating.

GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's convenience.
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be accomplished in shop.

LIFE LIMIT
 
The life limit for the new mid fan shaft P/N 2332M81G05 has been added to the GEnx-1B Engine Manual (EM), Section 05-11-04 by Temporary Revision (TR) 05-0060. Refer to the GEnx-1B EM for the life limit(s) of this part.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce a new part and improve reliability.
(2)Condition:
Corrosion on the mid fan shaft inner surface has been observed at shop visit inspection.
(3)Cause:
The oil leakage causes the corrosion pits on the mid fan shaft inner surface. The aluminium coating has not been successful protecting the mid fan shaft inner diameter from the corrosion.
(4)Improvement:
The new mid fan shaft has special seal coating on the mid fan shaft inner diameter and the aft flange surface in order to improve corrosion resistance.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by comparative analysis.

The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the appropriate governmental authority and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
