NOTE: |
|
D. | Concurrent Requirements |
None. |
E. | Reason |
(1) | Objective: |
To introduce parts, improve reliability, and for safety. |
(2) | Condition: |
The profile bump forward of the fan blade leading edge contributed to a rub event resulting in an in-flight shutdown (IFSD). |
(3) | Cause: |
If there is no clearance between the fan blade tip and the aft fan stator case assembly, the fan blade tip rubs and engages into the abradable material; then, the cutting load causes the fan blade to open and traverse axially forward. |
(4) | Improvement: |
The elimination of the abradable bump forward of the fan blade leading edge reduces the maximum rub forces that can be generated during a tip rub. The increase in clearance will reduce the likelihood of fan blade tip rubs. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by comparative analysis. |
F. | Approval |
The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the appropriate governmental authority and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin. |
