The aft fan stator case assembly P/N 2447M18G01 is affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin releases a new aft fan stator case assembly P/N 2447M18G02.
C.Compliance
Category 7
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer convenience/option.
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be accomplished in shop.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce parts, improve reliability, and for safety.
(2)Condition:
The profile bump forward of the fan blade leading edge contributed to a rub event resulting in an in-flight shutdown (IFSD).
(3)Cause:
If there is no clearance between the fan blade tip and the aft fan stator case assembly, the fan blade tip rubs and engages into the abradable material; then, the cutting load causes the fan blade to open and traverse axially forward.
(4)Improvement:
The elimination of the abradable bump forward of the fan blade leading edge reduces the maximum rub forces that can be generated during a tip rub. The increase in clearance will reduce the likelihood of fan blade tip rubs.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by comparative analysis.
F.Approval
The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the appropriate governmental authority and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
No additional man-hours are required to comply with this Service Bulletin.
H.Weight and Balance
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin decreases weight by 2.46 lb (1.12 kg).
