The stage 10 outlet guide vanes (OGVs) P/N 2303M16G04, P/N 2303M16G06, and P/N 2303M16G07 are affected by this Service Bulletin. |
B. | Description |
This Service Bulletin releases new and modification configurations for the stage 10 OGVs to recover parts found in service with damage that were previously unserviceable. |
This Service Bulletin introduces the new stage 10 OGV P/N 2303M16G08 to address wear generated by the adjacent piston ring. |
This Service Bulletin introduces equivalent reworked stage 10 OGVs P/N 2763M05G02, P/N 2763M05G03, and P/N 2763M05G04 to address wear generated by the adjacent piston ring. This configuration contains a weld buildup restoration of the forward rail. |
This Service Bulletin also introduces equivalent reworked stage 10 OGVs P/N 2763M05G05, P/N 2763M05G06, and P/N 2763M05G07 to address wear generated by the adjacent piston ring. This configuration contains a wear resistant coating buildup restoration of the forward rail. |
C. | Compliance |
Category 3 |
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at the next shop visit of the engine. |
Impact B |
This recommendation is to address a condition that may result in an Increased Rate of In-Flight Shutdowns (IFSD), Take-Off Aborts (TOA), Air Turn Backs (ATB) or Diversions (DIV). |
NOTE: |
|
This Service Bulletin is offered to improve the reliability or performance of your GE product, or to help prevent the occurrence of the event or condition described in this Service Bulletin. If the operator elects not to participate in the bulletin, that decision will be taken into consideration by GE in evaluating future product performance issues that may arise in the operator's fleet. |
D. | Concurrent Requirements |
None. |
E. | Reason |
(1) | Objective: |
To introduce new and reworked parts that improve reliability and reduce significant events. |
(2) | Condition: |
The wear of the forward rail of the stage 10 OGV results in exposure of the piston ring and early removal of the engine. |
(3) | Cause: |
The wear of the forward rail is the result of contact and excessive relative motion with the piston ring. |
(4) | Improvement: |
For the new stage 10 OGV P/N 2303M16G08, the change revises the forward rail by applying T800 wear resistant coating to the surface that is currently experiencing wear from the adjacent piston ring. This change will extend the time on-wing of the engine. |
For the new stage 10 OGVs P/N 2763M05G02, P/N 2763M05G03, and P/N 2763M05G04, the change introduces a repair that restores the forward rail to the original geometry with L605 material, providing an improved wear couple. |
For the new stage 10 OGVs P/N 2763M05G05, P/N 2763M05G06, and P/N 2763M05G07, the change introduces a repair that restores the forward rail to the original geometry with a T800 wear coating material, providing an improved wear couple. These changes will extend the time on-wing of the engine. |
The new reworked stage 10 OGVs included herein are made from the current fielded stage 10 OGVs P/N 2303M16G04, P/N 2303M16G06, and P/N 2303M16G07 and will improve the wear resistance of the rail over the original design. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis. |
