The bifurcation manifold P/N 2431M35G01 and electrical clip inserts (clip inserts) P/N 1793M46P03 and P/N 1793M46P04 are affected by this Service Bulletin. |
B. | Description |
This Service Bulletin eliminates two plastic clip inserts from the harness support spring clip by replacing the old bifurcation manifold with new lower bifurcation oil manifold (bifurcation manifold) P/N 2772M12G01 or reworking the old bifurcation manifold to P/N 2772M13G01 by replacing the existing clips with new clips P/N AS5117-03 and P/N AS5117-04 and the existing solid rivets with new solid rivets P/N AN123170 and P/N AN123164. |
C. | Compliance |
Category 7 |
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's convenience. |
Impact E |
This recommendation is to improve the cost of ownership, reduce maintenance requirements or is a product improvement. |
NOTE: |
|
D. | Concurrent Requirements |
None. |
E. | Reason |
(1) | Objective: |
To introduce new parts and remove parts from service. |
(2) | Condition: |
The current clip inserts require a complex assembly process, which leads to more time for field shop operations. |
(3) | Cause: |
The plastic clip inserts were introduced as a response to customer concerns on poor routing experience for legacy sustaining programs. |
(4) | Improvement: |
Successful field harness experience across engine programs has demonstrated that harness peek overbraid at the spring clips performs its chafe guard purpose when properly integrated with spring clips. |
The new design reduces the parts count, improves field shop operations, eliminates potential foreign object damage concerns, and resolves special considerations to abate clip inserts damage and their proliferation by error-proofing maintenance activity. To enable clip inserts removal, harness supports are being updated to downsize clip sizes. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis. |
F. | Approval |
The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA or authorized entity representing the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin. |
G. | Manpower |
After you get access to the bifurcation manifold, you will need approximately 1.0 man-hour for each engine or component. |
H. | Weight and Balance |
Weight and balance are not changed. |

3. | ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS |
A. | Removal |
(1) | Remove the old bifurcation manifold (1, Figure 1). Removal instructions have not changed. Refer to the GEnx-1B EM, 72-00-03, DISASSEMBLY 001 and do as follows: |
(a) | Remove and discard the clip inserts (2 and 3, Figure 1). |
(b) | Rework the old bifurcation manifold (1, Figure 1) as specified in paragraph 3.B., Rework. |
OR |
(c) | Install a new bifurcation manifold (1, Figure 1) as specified in paragraph 3.C., Installation. |
B. | Rework |
(1) | Rework the old bifurcation manifold (1, Figure 1) as follows: |
CAUTION: |
|
(a) | Drill out the three existing solid rivets that hold the two existing clips to remove them from the support bracket. Refer to the SPM, 70-13-00, RIVETED JOINTS. |
(b) | Discard the two existing clips. |
(c) | Install the new clips (4 and 5, Figure 1). Refer to the SPM, 70-13-00, RIVETED JOINTS and do as follows: |
