This Service Bulletin is applicable to these GEnx-1B engines:
GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-198 thru 956-202, 956-272 thru 956-309, and 956-313 thru 956-316.
This Service Bulletin has been introduced in production to these GEnx-1B engines:
GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-317 and up.
These serial numbers are the best available data.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin provides a new configuration of booster anti-ice (BAI) hardware.

GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's convenience.
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be accomplished in shop.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new parts.
The purpose of these changes is to minimize air leakage at the splitter interface.
(2)Condition:
The current design uses feeders with a large clearance gap at the splitter/BAI interface resulting in air leakage.
(3)Cause:
The current BAI feeders have a clearance hole where they interface with the splitter which results in some air leakage.
The current BAI uses a half-shell wye as is conventional. It is believed that the wye causes a recirculation air bubble at the junction.
(4)Improvement:
The proposed BAI manifold improves the overall flow characteristics of the system.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis.

This Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
No additional man-hours are required to comply with this Service Bulletin.
H.Weight and Balance
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin decreases weight by 0.35 lb (0.16 kg).
