Revision 1 is issued to effectively cancel the intent of this Service Bulletin. GE Aviation no longer recommends the accomplishment of this Service Bulletin.

1.PLANNING INFORMATION
A.Effectivity

 This change was cancelled and was removed from production.
The screen assemblies P/N LR47504, P/N LR47505, and P/N LR47507 that belong to the lube unit P/N LR47760E1 are affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
 GE Aviation no longer recommends the accomplishment of this Service Bulletin.
 The alternative preformed packings, P/N J1438P916, P/N J1438P918, and P/N J1438P924 are still acceptable alternative parts for the current screen assemblies.
This Service Bulletin releases the screen assemblies with new magnetic chip detector (MCD) P/N LR48211, P/N LR48212, and P/N LR48214 on the lube and scavange pump (lube unit) P/N LR47760E1. This Service Bulletin also adds the alternative preformed packings P/N J1438P916, P/N J1438P918, and P/N J1438P924 to the lube unit.

E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new parts.
(2)Condition:
Under certain engine conditions, the capture efficiency of the MCD located in the screen assembly can be insufficient.
(3)Cause:
Insufficient capture efficiency of the MCD.
(4)Improvement:
The new screen assembly contains a more powerful magnet with better capture efficiency.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by comparative analysis, analysis, and test.

This Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.

3.ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A.Removal
(1)Remove the five screen assemblies (1, 3, and 5, Figure 1)from the lube unit (01-010, 79-21-10) as follows:
(a)Do not remove the contamination caught in the screen assemblies and on the MCDs when the screen assemblies (1, 3, and 5) are removed.
(b)Put the 1.0 gal (3.8 liter) oil resistant container below the lube unit (01-010).
NOTE:
When the screen assemblies (1, 3, and 5) are removed, make sure that you keep all of the contamination caught in the screen assemblies and on the MCDs.
(c)Remove the screen assemblies (1, 3, and 5) from the lube unit (01-010).
(d)Put the oil drain into the oil resistant container.
(e)Install the protective covers on the open ports of the lube unit (01-010).
(f)Remove and discard the preformed packings (2, 4, and 6) from the lube unit (01-010).
B.Installation
(1)Install the screen assemblies (1, 3, and 5, Figure 1)in the lube unit (01-010, 79-21-10) as follows:
WARNING:
LUBRICATING OILS MAY CAUSE SKIN, EYE, AND RESPIRATORY IRRITATION WITH PROLONGED OR REPEATED CONTACT. UTILIZE PROPER PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT SKIN AND EYE CONTACT. IF CONTACT OCCURS, FLUSH AFFECTED AREAS WITH WATER.
CAUTION:
DO NOT DAMAGE THE PREFORMED PACKINGS. OIL LEAKS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(a)Apply a light layer of C02-019 engine oil to the new preformed packings (2, 4, and 6).
(b)Install the new preformed packings (2, 4, and 6) into the groove below the flange of the screen assemblies (1, 3, and 5).
(c)Remove the protective covers from the open ports of the lube unit (01-010).
(d)Install the new screen assemblies (1, 3, and 5) into the lube unit (01-010).
(e)Tighten the new screen assemblies (1, 3, and 5) and torque to 100-120 lb in. (11.3-13.6 N.m).
