This Service Bulletin is applicable to these GEnx-1B engines:
GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-110 and up.
These serial numbers are the best available data.
Other: First Quarter of 2012 (Target Availability).
The oil scavenge tube P/N 2363M38G01 is affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin releases a new oil scavenge tube P/N 2487M14G01 that replaces the integral welded fitting tab integrated to the tube with a separate cushioned loop clamp P/N J1431P12.

GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's convenience or option.

This Service Bulletin can be accomplished in shop.

E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce a new part and improve maintainability.
(2)Condition:
The oil scavenge tube installation and tube-bearing housing stack-up misalignment.
(3)Cause:
The current oil scavenge tube with an integral welded fitting tab is causing stack-up issues during assembly procedure.
(4)Improvement:
The new oil scavenge tube assembly design improves producibility and provides an improved installation fitting capability at engine assembly.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by comparative analysis.

This Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.

After you get access to the No. 1 bearing oil tubes assembly, you will need approximately 1.0 man-hour for each engine or component.

3.ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A.Removal
(1)Removal instructions for the oil scavenge tube (1, Figure 1) have not changed. Refer to the GEnx-1B EM, 72-00-23, REMOVAL 001, Subtask 72-00-23-020-007.
B.Installation
(1)Install the oil scavenge tube (1, Figure 1) as follows:
WARNING:
LUBRICATING OILS MAY CAUSE SKIN, EYE, AND RESPIRATORY IRRITATION WITH PROLONGED OR REPEATED CONTACT. UTILIZE PROPER PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT SKIN AND EYE CONTACT. IF CONTACT OCCURS, FLUSH AFFECTED AREAS WITH WATER.
(a)Use engine oil (C02-019) or engine oil (C02-023) to lubricate two packings (40-070, 79-22-10) and the internal chamfers on the two ends of the oil scavenge tube.
(b)Install one packing (40-070) on each end of the oil scavenge tube (1).
(c)Insert the aft end of the oil scavenge tube (1) into the fan hub module (25-010, 72-00-02) at approximately the 6:00 o'clock position, forward locking aft.
(d)Attach the aft section of the scavenge oil tube to the No. 1 bearing housing (01-010, 72-23-00) with a machine bolt (40-080, 79-22-10) and a cushioned loop clamp (2).
(e)Attach the forward section of the scavenge oil tube to the No. 1 bearing housing (01-010, 72-23-00) with a machine bolt (40-080, 79-22-10) and a cushioned loop clamp (40-090).
(f)Torque the machine bolts (40-080) installed in the cushioned loop clamps (2 and 40-090) to 60-70 lb in. (6.8-7.9 N.m).
