A.Effectivity
* * * FOR GEnx-1B64, -1B64/P1, -1B64/P2, -1B67, -1B67/P1, -1B67/P2, -1B70, -1B70/75/P1, -1B70/75/P2, -1B70/P1, -1B70/P2, -1B74/75/P1, -1B74/75/P2
This Service Bulletin has been introduced in production to this GEnx-1B engine:
GEnx-1B engine, serial number 956-317.
This serial number is the best available data.
The variable frequency starter generator (VFSG) oil tube P/N ER5738G01 and oil VFSG tube P/N ER5739G01 are affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin introduces new VFSG oil tube P/N ER8101G01 and oil VFSG tube P/N ER8102G01 with a new design, which improves a clearance between the B-nut and the main body heat shield.
C.Compliance
Category 7
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's convenience/option.
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be accomplished on wing or in shop.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new parts and improve maintainability.
(2)Condition:
The current VFSG oil tube and oil VFSG tube have a very close clearance to the main body heat shield, making assembly/maintainability difficult and time consuming.
(3)Cause:
The current geometry of the VFSG oil tube and oil VFSG tube, together with the flexibility of the whole system, place the B-nut too close to the main body heat shield.
(4)Improvement:
The proposed routing for the VFSG oil tube and oil VFSG tube results in an increase of the clearance between the B-nut and the main body heat shield and shows a positive impact on assembly and maintainability.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis.
F.Approval
This Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
No additional man-hours are required to comply with this Service Bulletin.
H.Weight and Balance
Weight and balance are not changed.
