A. | Recoat threads as directed in the following steps. |
(1) | Steam clean per TASK 70-21-03-160-001, Cleaning Method No. 3 - Steam Cleaning, to remove dirt and grease. Special care must be taken to clean the threads. Parts to be coated must be free of heat-treat oxides, grease, oil and other foreign matter. Clean per TASK 70-21-06-110-004, Cleaning Method No. 6 - Heavy-Duty Alkaline Cleaner (Without Inhibited Phosphoric Acid). |
(2) | Blow threads dry with clean shop air. |
(3) | Apply dry-film lubricant C02-006 as follows: |
(a) | Stir lubricant thoroughly before using. Lubricant settles out of the mixture rapidly, and the mixture should be agitated during use. |
(b) | Coat threads with lubricant mixture, taking care to coat threads completely. Use a swab, if necessary, to break air pockets and obtain complete coverage. |
(c) | Air-dry the coating for at least 15 minutes, then bake for a minimum of 2 hours at 150 to 200°F (66 to 93°C) followed by a minimum of 2 hours at 375 to 425°F (191 to 218°C) using an air circulating type oven. |
4 . | Quality Assurance. |
Subtask 70-43-09-640-013 |
A. | Examine the coating on the processed part. It must appear free from cracks, scratches, sags, blisters, flakes, or foreign material. The coating must be smooth, uniform, and dark grey in color. |
B. | Check coverage of the coating and apply cure test on the part: |
(1) | Cured coating must exhibit complete coverage in the areas as specified in related repair instructions. Coating on areas other than those specified, must not be permitted. |
(2) | Cured lubricant must be tested by rubbing a cotton swab soaked with methyl alcohol C04-180 or general solvent C04-035 , across the surface of the part for 1 minute. Coating must be capable of showing no evidence of flaking, cracking or loss of adhesion. Transfer of coating to the cotton swab is acceptable. |
C. | Remove the coating and reprocess the part if the coating fails any of these tests above. |
