1 . General.
A.This procedure gives instructions to preserve and store the mid fan shaft when it is removed from the mid fan shaft assembly. Refer to Figure 1201. Make sure to obey the instructions that are listed below:

B.This procedure begins with the mid fan shaft installed in the 11C3605   mid fan shaft truck at the equivalent disassembly status of TASK 72-00-04-030-801 (72-00-04, Disassembly). Refer to Figure 1202.
C.Before you begin these procedures, read the Preservation of Engine Parts section. Refer to TASK 70-60-00-620-001 (PRESERVATION OF ENGINE PARTS).

3 . Procedure
Subtask 72-58-00-550-001
A.This procedure gives instructions to preserve the mid fan shaft when removed from the mid fan shaft assembly and put it in storage for up to one month.
(1)Remove the mid fan shaft from the mid fan shaft assembly. Refer to TASK 72-58-00-030-801 (72-58-00, Disassembly 001).
WARNING:
ALWAYS USE APPROVED EQUIPMENT AND PROCEDURES TO LIFT PARTS. STAY OUT FROM BELOW LOADS. IF THE PARTS ACCIDENTALLY MOVE OR FALL, THEY CAN CAUSE AN INJURY OR KILL YOU.
(2)If necessary, use the 11C3600   mid fan shaft lift fixture to lift the mid fan shaft. Refer to Figure 1203.
Subtask 72-58-00-620-001
WARNING:
LUBRICATING OILS MAY CAUSE SKIN, EYE AND RESPIRATORY IRRITATION WITH PROLONGED OR REPEATED CONTACT. USE PROPER PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT SKIN AND EYE CONTACT. IF EYE OR SKIN CONTACT OCCURS FLUSH EYES WITH WATER AND/OR WASH SKIN THOROUGHLY WITH SOAP AND WATER.
(3)Apply a large quantity of C02-019  engine oil or C02-023  engine oil to all the uncoated surfaces of the mid fan shaft. Refer to Figure 1204.

(4)Put C10-128  plastic sheet, polyethylene around the uncoated surfaces of the mid fan shaft.
Subtask 72-58-00-550-005
(5)Install the mid fan shaft on the 11C3605   mid fan shaft truck. Refer to TASK 72-58-00-030-801 (72-58-00, Disassembly 001).

(1)Apply C02-025  oil, preservation to all the uncoated surfaces of the mid fan shaft.

(2)Put C10-009  paper, greaseproof around the uncoated surfaces of the mid fan shaft.

(3)Put the mid fan shaft in the 11C3605   mid fan shaft truck. Refer to TASK 72-58-00-030-801 (72-58-00, Disassembly 001).
(a)Make sure that you install the 11C3296   thread/spline protector on the forward end of the mid fan shaft.
