1.PLANNING INFORMATION
A.Effectivity
* * * FOR GEnx-1B64/P2, -1B67/P2, -1B70/P2, -1B70C/P2, -1B70/75/P2, -1B74/75/P2, -1B76A/P2
This Service Bulletin is applicable to the GEnx-1B engines that will be or are upgraded into PIP2 configuration in accordance with the GEnx-1B S/B 72-0154 and GEnx-1B S/B 72-0160. This Service Bulletin can be performed as a part of PIP2 engine upgrade process only.
The turbine rear frames (TRF) P/N 10054251, P/N 10067452, P/N 10070017, P/N 10075904, and P/N 10131146 are affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin provides instructions to rework the old pre-PIP2 TRFs into PIP2 capable configuration.
Also, this Service Bulletin releases the new reworked TRFs P/N 10189430, P/N 10200815, P/N 10200816, P/N 10200818, and P/N 10200820 to the field for use with PIP2 engines only.

D.Concurrent Requirements

E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To rework parts.
(2)Condition:
During the engine upgrade to PIP2 configuration, the pre-PIP2 TRF needs to be replaced with a new PIP2 TRF (P/N 10140751 or P/N 10140753).
(3)Cause:
There is a need to rework the pre-PIP2 TRFs to make them capable with PIP2 engines.
(4)Improvement:
The proposed rework procedure consists of adding material (Inconel 718) with laser metal deposition-powder (LMD-p) in three critical areas to improve the ultimate strength capability in order to reach same or better strength capability than the current PIP2 configuration.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis.

3.ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A.General
(1)Remove the TRF (1, Figure 1). Removal instructions for the TRF (1) have not changed. Refer to the GEnx-1B EM, 72-00-04, REMOVAL 001 and DISASSEMBLY 001.
(2)Disassemble the TRF (1, Figure 1). Disassembly instructions for the TRF (1) have not changed. Refer to the GEnx-1B EM, 72-57-00, DISASSEMBLY 001.

The repair referred to below contains complex processes that could affect engine reliability and/or performance. Therefore it is necessary to substantiate the ability and adequacy of a repair source to successfully accomplish the repair. A Technical License Agreement is also required. NOTE:
To install the upgraded TRF, it is necessary to also install the new bracket assembly P/N 10135536 (SIN 940A0-25) and remove the spacer P/N J1435P42 (SIN 940A0 28) from the eductor air assembly tube. Refer to RD 940-351 and GEnx-1B EM, 72-00-00, SPECIAL PROCEDURE 013 for PIP2 configuration for installation procedures of the new bracket assembly and the eductor air assembly tube.
(a)Rework the TRF (1, Figure 1). Refer to RD 940-351.
(b)Reidentify the TRF (1, Figure 1) as specified in the repair instructions. Refer to RD 940-351.
