This Service Bulletin is applicable to these GEnx-1B engines:
GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-102 through 956-915.
This Service Bulletin has been introduced in production to these GEnx-1B engines:
GEnx-1B engines, serial numbers 956-916 and up.
These serial numbers are the best available data.
The high pressure turbine (HPT) stage 2 nozzles P/N 2300M61G07, P/N 2300M61G08, P/N 2300M61G11, P/N 2300M61G12, P/N 2300M61G13, and P/N 2300M61G14, HPT nozzle stage 2 air tube (air tube) P/N 2327M88P01, and retaining ring P/N 9631M84P18 are affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin introduces new HPT stage 2 nozzles P/N 2300M61G15, P/N 2300M61G16, P/N 2733M11G01, P/N 2733M11G02, P/N 2733M11G03, and P/N 2733M11G04, air tube P/N 2327M88P02, and internal retainer ring P/N 2557M06P02.
C.Compliance
Category 6
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin when the HPT stage 2 nozzle is routed for repair.
Impact E
This recommendation is to improve the cost of ownership, reduce maintenance requirements or is a product improvement.
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be done in shop.
This Service Bulletin is offered to improve the reliability or performance of your GE product, or to help prevent the occurrence of the event or condition described in this Service Bulletin. If the operator elects not to participate in the bulletin, that decision will be taken into consideration by GE in evaluating future product performance issues that may arise in the operators fleet.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new parts, rework parts, and improve maintainability.
(2)Condition:
The current air tubes and the mating portion of the HPT stage 2 nozzles have been found with significant wear in the field. The current retaining rings have been observed to lose hardness in operation.
(3)Cause:
Loose air tubes spin, causing wear on the mating portion of the HPT stage 2 nozzles.
(4)Improvement:
Dimensional changes have been made to the air tube and the mating portion of the HPT stage 2 nozzle to improve fit and reduce operational wear. The internal retainer ring has a different geometry which will improve retention in operation.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis.
F.Approval
The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA or authorized entity representing the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
No additional man-hours are required to comply with this Service Bulletin.
H.Weight and Balance
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin increases weight by 0.12 lb (0.054 kg).

K.Interchangeability
Qualified interchangeability.
In the field during engine overhaul, the new HPT stage 2 nozzles P/N 2300M61G15 and P/N 2300M61G16 can be mixed within HPT stage 2 nozzle assemblies P/N 2305M56G06 or P/N 2305M56G08 with old HPT stage 2 nozzles P/Ns 2300M61G07/G08/G11/G12/G13/G14 or with reworked HPT stage 2 nozzles P/Ns 2733M11G01/G02/G03/G04. The HPT stage 2 nozzles P/Ns 2300M61G07/G08/G11/G12/G13/G14 require the old air tube P/N 2327M88P01, while the HPT stage 2 nozzles P/Ns 2300M61G15/G16 and P/Ns 2733M11G01/G02/G03/G04 require the new air tube P/N 2327M88P02.
In the field during engine overhaul, the new HPT stage 2 nozzles P/N 2300M61G15 and P/N 2300M61G16 may not be mixed within HPT stage 2 nozzle assemblies P/N 2305M56G03, P/N 2305M56G04, or P/N 2305M56G05. The new HPT stage 2 nozzles P/N 2300M61G15 and P/N 2300M61G16 require post-GEnx-1B S/B 72-0036 spline seals.
Any current retaining ring P/N 9631M84P18 removed during the engine overhaul must be replaced with the new internal retainer ring P/N 2557M06P02. The serviceable retaining ring P/N 9631M84P18 may be left installed during the HPT stage 2 nozzle assembly overhaul at a quick-turn shop visit.

B.Configuration Upgrade Procedure
(1)For HPT stage 2 nozzle rework during the HPT stage 2 nozzle full repair, do as follows:

NOTICE

APPROVAL OF REWORK SOURCES

The repair referred to below contains complex processes that could affect engine reliability and/or performance. Therefore it is necessary to substantiate the ability and adequacy of a repair source to successfully accomplish the repair. A License Agreement is also required. Information concerning a License Agreement is available from:

ATTN.: Manager, Licensing
GE Aviation
One Neumann Way, M/D RM100
Cincinnati, Ohio 45215-6301

(2)For HPT stage 2 nozzle rework during a quick-turn or continued-time shop visit as specified in the GEnx-1B CIR, 72-00-00, INSPECTION 001, do as follows:
 (a)Rework the old HPT stage 2 nozzles P/Ns 2300M61G07/G11/G13 (SIN 174A0) and P/Ns 2300M61G08/G12/G14 (SIN 174A1). Refer to RD 174-205.
C.Assembly/Installation
(1)Assembly/installation instructions of the new HPT stage 2 nozzle assembly have not changed. Refer to the GEnx-1B EM, 72-52-00, ASSEMBLY 001, CONFIG 01 and CONFIG 02.
NOTE:
During a quick-turn shop visit when some of the HPT stage 2 nozzles or air tubes (1, Figure 1) or retaining rings (2) are replaced, old HPT stage 2 nozzles require the use of old air tubes (1) and new HPT stage 2 nozzles require the use of new air tubes (1). New internal retainer rings (2) should be used to replace any old retaining rings (2) which are removed.
