E. | Reason |
(1) | Objective: |
To introduce new parts. |
(2) | Condition: |
Maintainability issues during removal of the free-running thin wall insert, screw insert with locking ring, and locking ring and key locked Inconel 718 self-locking screw thread insert, which cause damage to the combustor case threaded hole. |
(3) | Cause: |
The free-running thin wall insert, screw insert with locking ring, and locking ring and key locked Inconel 718 self-locking screw thread insert can get seized due to a high initial running torque on the assembly. |
(4) | Improvement: |
This Service Bulletin introduces a new key locked insert and key locked oversized insert that have bigger outer diameter and allows for field repair of the affected combustor cases. The field repair is to machine the combustor case threaded hole and install a new key locked insert. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by analysis. |
