This Service Bulletin is applicable to all GEnx-1B engines.
The electronic engine control (EEC) kit P/N 738L357G08, P/N 738L357G09, P/N 738L357G10, P/N 738L357G11, and P/N 738L357G15 and EEC software P/N 2124M23P13, P/N 2124M23P14, and P/N 2124M23P16 are affected by this Service Bulletin.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin releases new software P/N 2124M23P18 and EEC kit P/N 738L357G19. This Service Bulletin also provides EEC reprogramming procedures.
C.Compliance
Category 2
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin by August 31, 2014.
Refer to GEnx-1B EM, TASK 05-11-07-200-801 (CONTROL SYSTEM - TIME LIMITED DISPATCH AND LIMITATIONS), which requires that software version B165 be removed from service no later than August 31, 2014 for the GEnx-1BXX/P2 series engine models.
NOTE:
Prior to compliance of this Service Bulletin, verify engine Maximum Continuous Margins can meet ETOPS requirements for the specific rating. Refer to GEK112851, Tasks 05-23-00-200-801 (Chapter 5 - Engine Condition Monitoring) and 72-00-00-760-824 (TESTING).
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be accomplished on wing or in shop.
This Service Bulletin is offered to improve the reliability or performance of your GE product, or to help prevent the occurrence of the event or condition described in this Service Bulletin. If the operator elects not to participate in the bulletin, that decision will be taken into consideration by GE in evaluating future product performance issues that may arise in the operators fleet.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new parts.
(2)Condition:
Improvements to the EEC software have been identified.
(3)Cause:
Revenue Service experience has identified opportunities for EEC software improvements.
(4)Improvements:
The new EEC software version B175:
Enables ice crystal accommodation logic [variable bypass valve (VBV) opens to address potential core ice ingestion during ice crystal icing conditions].
Changes combustor cruise fuel mode logic for improved combustor spray nozzle durability (reduced pilot-only operation).
Improves booster anti-ice (BAI) functional test to reduce "test-not-run" and "test-failed" nuisance faults.
Updates EEC common data network fault logic to inhibit nuisance faults following engine shutdown.
Increases the persistence time of the thrust reverser (T/R) directional control valve secondary power distribution unit (SPDU) or power panel relay failed closed fault logic to reduce nuisance faults.
Updates take-off and stable cruise report trigger logic sent to engine maintenance unit (EMU) to reduce trend data scatter. These changes have no impact on the engine operation.
Increases persistence time for high pressure shut off valve (HPSOV) failed closed detection for air-starts to prevent nuisance engine indicating and crew alerting system (EICAS) indications.
Changes logic to inhibit the autorelight EICAS indication during thrust control malfunction accommodation (TCMA) shutdown as required.
Updates to GENX-1Bxx/P2 fuel control and variable geometry to protect against booster stall during a rejected takeoff (RTO).
NOTE:
The following improvements versus EEC software version B140 are included in the baseline PIP 2 EEC software version, B165, as well as B175.
Enabled BAI master minimum equipment list (MMEL) logic and revised BAI flow curves to reduce nuisance "test-not-run" faults.
Added EEC maintenance power on fault to reduce operation with EEC maintenance power left on.
Improved fuel flow signal processing logic to reduce nuisance blanking.
Added TCMA test robustness to reduce nuisance faults.
Updated fuel lever input processing logic to better leverage system redundancy, to reduce delayed engine shutdown and other related nuisance faults.
Introduced ground start logic improvements to increase start stall margin.
Improved internal EEC internal fault detection and channel switching logic to reduce nuisance auto-throttle disconnect faults.
Changed target VBV position in borescope special function (VBVs open) to support VBV system maintenance.
Added provisional logic for main fuel-oil heat exchanger (MFOHX) delta pressure monitoring.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by analysis and test.
F.Approval
This Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
After you get access to the EEC, you will need approximately 1.0 man-hour for each engine or component.
H.Weight and Balance
Weight and balance are not changed.
