This Service Bulletin is applicable to all GEnx-1B engines.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin introduces a new alternative pressure sensor P/N 2638M05P01.
C.Compliance
Category 7
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's option.
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be accomplished on wing.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new parts.
(2)Condition:
The current pressure sensor VIN 508486-1 (P/N 2125M60P01) is used in three areas within the GEnx engine: fuel filter, fuel pump strainer, and most recently, main fuel oil heat exchanger (refer to GEnx-1B S/B 79-0018). On certain engines, infant mortality failures of this sensor have been experienced at the main fuel oil heat exchanger location.
(3)Cause:
Higher than expected delta pressures (measured at the high side and low side of the heat exchanger bypass valve) may damage the sensing chip inside the sensor.
(4)Improvement:
The new part has incorporated pressure attenuators at each pressure port to reduce the peak pressure amplitudes that reach the sensor's sensing element (silicon chip).
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by analysis and comparative analysis.
F.Approval
The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the appropriate governmental authority and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
After you get access to the fuel delta pressure (DP) transducer, you will need approximately 0.5 man-hour for each engine or component.
H.Weight and Balance
Weight and balance are not changed.
