B.Description
This Service Bulletin releases new software P/N 2124M23P21 and EEC kit P/N 738L357G23. In addition, this Service Bulletin also provides EEC reprogramming procedures.
C.Compliance
Category 2
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin as soon as possible without effect on revenue service but before 60 days from the issue date of the Service Bulletin.
NOTE:
Prior to the compliance of this Service Bulletin, verify that engine maximum continuous margins can meet extended range twin-engine operations (ETOPS) requirements for the specific rating. Refer to the GEnx-1B EM, 05-23-00, LIFE LIMITS 001 and 72-00-00, TESTING 001.
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be accomplished on wing or in shop.
This Service Bulletin is offered to improve the reliability or performance of your GE product, or to help prevent the occurrence of the event or condition described in this Service Bulletin. If the operator elects not to participate in the bulletin, that decision will be taken into consideration by GE in evaluating future product performance issues that may arise in the operators fleet.
D.Concurrent Requirements
None.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new parts.
(2)Condition:
Improvements to the EEC software have been identified.
(3)Cause:
Revenue service experience has identified opportunities for EEC software improvements.
(4)Improvement:
The following changes are included in EEC software version B185:
Enhanced ice crystal icing (ICI) detection and accommodation based on lessons learned from engineering tests and analysis of ICI encounter data.
Improved combustor dynamics mitigation fuel scheduling logic for increased combustor durability.
Implemented various improvements to EEC logic driving engine indicating and crew alerting system (EICAS) messages, EEC signal processing (ISP), and maintenance functions:
Revised total air temperature (TAT) sensor signal selection logic to reduce likelihood of soft alternate mode reversion.
Improved compressor discharge pressure (PS3) sensor signal selection logic robustness vs both single and dual sensor faults.
Added dual EEC channel signal processing to leverage redundancy of the engine configuration box (ECB) and revised maintenance reporting logic to allow dispatch for a single channel ECB fault.
Modified trigger logic for the ENGINE THRUST EICAS CAUTION message to reduce false indications, and also added correlated maintenance fault messages to facilitate troubleshooting.
Modified EEC and harness ground test special function logic to detect main fuel oil heat exchanger (MFOHx) delta pressure sensing faults.
Improved EEC-to-engine monitoring unit (EMU) data transmission to add additional parameters desired for EMU reports.
Incorporated required logic to support aircraft common data network (CDN) block point 9.3 configuration.
Modified fuel scheduling for improved off-idle operability margin for GEnx-1B/P2 engines.
Introduced a GEnx-1B/P2 fan speed (N1) modifier to minimize thrust vs speed errors, based on production test data.
Improved the EEC power management lock and lapse function assumed temperature tables to optimize match to the airplane N1 takeoff targets for certain engine ratings.
Revised engine ACARS engine condition monitoring report triggering to reduce variation in engine oil level data and also to account for transient bleed valve (TBV) transition effects on peak EGT data during takeoff.
Added provisional logic to allow the GEnx-1B and GEnx-1B/P1 configuration cast fuel metering unit (FMU) to be installed and operated on GEnx-1B/P2 engines.
Incorporated improvements to facilitate engine test cell operation, address minor development test findings and to non-functional and documentation issues.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by analysis and test.
F.Approval
The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the appropriate governmental authority and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
After you get access to the EEC, you will need approximately 1.0 man-hour for each engine or component.
H.Weight and Balance
Weight and balance are not changed.
