1.PLANNING INFORMATION
A.Effectivity
* * * FOR GEnx-1B64/P2, -1B67/P2, -1B70/75/P2, -1B70/P2, -1B70C/P2, -1B74/75/P2, -1B76A/P2
This Service Bulletin is applicable to all GEnx-1B/P2 engines.
B.Description
This Service Bulletin introduces the cast fuel metering unit (FMU) VIN 8062-1094 (P/N 2122M20P07) to the GEnx-1B/P2 engines as an alternate to the current rapid advanced machining (RAM) FMU VIN 8062-1106 (P/N 2459M17P01).
C.Compliance
Category 7
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's option.
Impact E
This recommendation is to improve the cost of ownership, reduce maintenance requirements or is a product improvement.
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin can be done on wing or in shop.
D.Concurrent Requirements
Do GEnx-1B S/B 73-0044 before you do this Service Bulletin.
NOTE:
The electronic engine control (EEC) software version B185 or higher must be installed before you comply with the intention of this Service Bulletin.
E.Reason
(1)Objective:
To introduce new parts and reduce cost of ownership.
(2)Condition:
During GEnx-1B engine upgrade to a GEnx-1B/P2 engine, the cast FMU needs to be replaced with a RAM FMU.
(3)Cause:
This alternate configuration will allow the cast FMU VIN 8062-1094 (P/N 2122M20P07) that is currently the type design on the GEnx-1B and GEnx-1B/P1 engine models to remain on the engine when engines are upgraded from previous configurations to the GEnx-1B/P2 configuration.
(4)Improvement:
Introducing the new FMU and the engine configuration box (ECB) monitoring configuration P/N 2140M98P03 or P/N 2140M98P04 [with a main fuel/oil heat exchanger differential pressure (DP) sensor] as alternate configurations to the GEnx-1B/P2 engine model.
(5)Substantiation:
Substantiation is by analysis, comparative analysis, and test.
F.Approval
The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA or authorized entity representing the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin.
G.Manpower
After you get access to the FMU, you will need approximately 2.5 man-hours for each engine or component.
H.Weight and Balance
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin decreases weight by 1.5 lb (0.7 kg).

3.ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A.FMU Replacement
(1)For in-shop instructions, do as follows:
(a)Removal and installation instructions for the FMU (1 or 2, Figure 1) have not changed. Refer to the applicable GEnx-1B EM procedures.
(2)For on-wing instructions, do as follows:
(a)Removal and installation instructions for the FMU (1 or 2, Figure 1) have not changed. Refer to the GEnx-1B, Boeing 787 AMM, FMU Removal, DMC-B787-A-G73-21-04-00A-520A-A and FMU installation, DMC-B787-A-G73-21-04-00A-720A-A.
B.Reprogramming of the ECB Monitoring Configuration
CAUTION:
INCORRECT PROGRAMMING OF THE ECB WILL RESULT IN A NON-TYPE DESIGN CONFIGURATION OF THE ENGINE AND POSSIBLE UNDESIRED ENGINE OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS, WHICH INCLUDE SLOW TO START AND/OR ABNORMAL THRUST RESPONSE.
(1)For in-shop reprogramming, refer to the GEnx-1B EM, 72-00-00, SPECIAL PROCEDURE 008 and do as follows:
(a)Program the ECB monitoring configuration. Refer to Table 1 below to select the part number setting.

*Refer to Figure 2 to identify whether the engine model is GEnx-1B/P2 and make sure with the engine data plate installed on the aft face of the fan hub frame (FHF) at the 11:00 o'clock position above the high pressure turbine active clearance control (HPTACC) booster bleed duct.

**Refer to Figure 1 to identify whether the installed FMU is the cast FMU (1) or the RAM FMU (2). The FMU is installed on the forward, right-hand side of the fuel adapter pad, located on the accessory gearbox (AGB) at the 3:00 o'clock position.

***Refer to Figure 1 to identify the installed fuel oil heat exchanger with the DP sensor or without the DP sensor. The fuel oil heat exchanger is installed on the fuel adapter pad, located on the AGB at the 3:00 o'clock position.
NOTE:
The engine serial number (ESN), HPTACC adjustment, and the engine configuration are not changed as a result of this modification.
(2)For on-wing reprogramming, refer to the GEnx-1B, Boeing 787 AMM, Configuration Type Box - Data Loading, DMC-B787-A-G73-21-07-00A-752A-A and do as follows:
(a)Program the ECB monitoring configuration. Refer to Table 1 above to select the part number setting.
(b)To make sure that the engine configuration values in the cockpit are correct, refer to the EEC configuration data function specified in the GEnx-1B, Boeing 787 AMM, G73-21-05, Software Operation, DMC-B787-A-G73-21-05-00D-110B-A.
(c)Do the post-maintenance operational checks as follows:
1Obey the Power Plant Test Reference Table requirements for the FMU replacement. Refer to the GEnx-1B, Boeing 787 AMM, Power Plant Test Reference Table, DMC-B787-A-G71-00-00-09A-950A-A.
