This Service Bulletin is applicable to all GEnx-1B/P2 engines. |
B. | Description |
This Service Bulletin introduces the cast fuel metering unit (FMU) VIN 8062-1094 (P/N 2122M20P07) to the GEnx-1B/P2 engines as an alternate to the current rapid advanced machining (RAM) FMU VIN 8062-1106 (P/N 2459M17P01). |
C. | Compliance |
Category 7 |
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's option. |
Impact E |
This recommendation is to improve the cost of ownership, reduce maintenance requirements or is a product improvement. |
NOTE: |
|
D. | Concurrent Requirements |
Do GEnx-1B S/B 73-0044 before you do this Service Bulletin. |
NOTE: |
|
E. | Reason |
(1) | Objective: |
To introduce new parts and reduce cost of ownership. |
(2) | Condition: |
During GEnx-1B engine upgrade to a GEnx-1B/P2 engine, the cast FMU needs to be replaced with a RAM FMU. |
(3) | Cause: |
This alternate configuration will allow the cast FMU VIN 8062-1094 (P/N 2122M20P07) that is currently the type design on the GEnx-1B and GEnx-1B/P1 engine models to remain on the engine when engines are upgraded from previous configurations to the GEnx-1B/P2 configuration. |
(4) | Improvement: |
Introducing the new FMU and the engine configuration box (ECB) monitoring configuration P/N 2140M98P03 or P/N 2140M98P04 [with a main fuel/oil heat exchanger differential pressure (DP) sensor] as alternate configurations to the GEnx-1B/P2 engine model. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by analysis, comparative analysis, and test. |
F. | Approval |
The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA or authorized entity representing the FAA and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin. |
G. | Manpower |
After you get access to the FMU, you will need approximately 2.5 man-hours for each engine or component. |
H. | Weight and Balance |
The complete compliance with this Service Bulletin decreases weight by 1.5 lb (0.7 kg). |
