B. | Description |
This Service Bulletin introduces new longer bolts P/N AS3239-14, P/N AS3580-6-20, and P/N J1496P17A, used to attach the transient bleed air duct and compressor discharge pressure (CDP) port cover to the compressor diffuser nozzle (CDN) case. |

(1) | Objective: |
To introduce new parts and improve reliability. |
(2) | Condition: |
One engine has been found with a missing bolt from one of the CDN case pads. |
(3) | Cause: |
The current bolt length is insufficient to supply an adequate margin of proper thread engagement with the secondary retention feature of the threaded inserts. |
(4) | Improvement: |
Longer bolts are introduced at two locations, eight bolts in total. The locations are the two transient bleed air manifold for ports pre-GEnx-1B S/B 72-0065 engines, and the transient bleed air duct port and CDP port cover port for post-GEnx-1B S/B 72-0065 engines. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by comparative analysis. |
