Subtask 72-53-40-160-002
(1).A.Alternative Procedure. Steam clean the stage 1 disk. Refer to TASK 70-21-03-160-001 (CLEANING METHOD 3 - STEAM CLEANING).
Subtask 72-53-40-110-023
(1).B.Alternative Procedure. Do a heavy-duty alkaline cleaning of the stage 1 disk. Refer to TASK 70-21-06-110-004 (CLEANING METHOD NO. 6 - HEAVY-DUTY ALKALINE CLEANER (WITHOUT INHIBITED PHOSPHORIC ACID)).
Subtask 72-53-40-110-002
(1).C.Alternative Procedure. Four-step alkaline clean and acidic descale the stage 1 disk. Refer to TASK 70-21-10-110-008 (CLEANING METHOD 10 - FOUR-STEP ALKALINE CLEANING AND ACIDIC DESCALING (WITHOUT INHIBITED PHOSPHORIC ACID)).
Subtask 72-53-40-110-003
(1).D.Alternative Procedure. Four-step alkaline clean and acidic descale the stage 1 disk. Refer to TASK 70-21-20-110-038 (CLEANING METHOD 20 - FOUR-STEP ALKALINE CLEANING AND ACIDIC DESCALING (WITH INHIBITED PHOSPHORIC ACID)).
Subtask 72-53-40-120-001
(2)If the initial procedure does not remove black oxide deposits and all unwanted material, wet abrasive blast clean the stage 1 disk. Refer to Figure 601 and do as follows:
Subtask 72-53-40-220-001
(a)Before the wet abrasive blast clean, measure and record the dovetail slot widths, dimension AZ, at the forward, center, and aft axial locations on each dovetail slot that will be wet abrasive blast cleaned.
You must use a wire with a diameter of 0.25 in. (6.4 mm).
Make sure you put the wire approximately one-third of the way into the slot for the forward and aft axial positions.
Record the slot position numbers.
Subtask 72-53-40-120-002
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET THE WET ABRASIVE BLAST STAY IN ONE AREA. THIS CAN CAUSE REMOVAL OF THE PARENT MATERIAL. REFER TO TASK 70-21-05-120-B02 (Wet Abrasive Blast Cleaning Method 5B) TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE PART.
(b)Alternative Procedure Available. Wet abrasive blast clean the stage 1 disk. Refer to TASK 70-21-05-120-B02 (Wet Abrasive Blast Cleaning Method 5B). Use C04-112  Abrasive Compound, 500 Mesh.
Subtask 72-53-40-120-003
(b).A.Alternative Procedure. Wet abrasive blast clean the stage 1 disk. Refer to TASK 70-21-05-120-B02 (Wet Abrasive Blast Cleaning Method 5B) and TASK 70-00-99-801-054 (S1054 - WET ABRASIVE BLASTING - ALUMINUM OXIDE 500 GRIT).
Subtask 72-53-40-120-004
(b).B.Alternative Procedure. Wet abrasive blast clean the dovetails of the stage 1 disk. Refer to TASK 72-53-40-300-806 (72-53-40, REPAIR 009).
Subtask 72-53-40-220-002
(c)Measure and record the dovetail slot widths, dimension AZ, at the forward, center, and aft axial positions on each dovetail slot that was cleaned.
You must use a wire with a diameter of 0.25 in. (6.4 mm).
Make sure that you put the wire approximately one-third of the way into the slot for the forward and aft axial positions.
Record the slot position numbers.
Subtask 72-53-40-220-003
(d)Calculate the change (delta-AZ) in the dovetail slot widths at the three locations for each dovetail slot that was wet abrasive blast cleaned as follows:
1To find delta-AZ, subtract the slot width AZ found in Subtask 72-53-40-220-002 (paragraph 3.A.(2)(c)) from slot width AZ found in Subtask 72-53-40-220-001 (paragraph 3.A.(2)(a)) .
2Delta-AZ must be between -0.0010 inch (-0.025 mm) and +0.0010 inch (+0.025 mm) at the three axial locations. If delta-AZ is not within these limits, the stage 1 disk is unserviceable.
