REVISION 1 TO SERVICE BULLETIN 73-0043 |
Revision 1 is issued to update paragraphs 1., PLANNING INFORMATION, 2., MATERIAL INFORMATION, and 3., ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS. |
The original was issued April 15, 2015. Revision bars in the left margin identify changes. |
1. | PLANNING INFORMATION |
A. | Effectivity |
* * * FOR GEnx-1B64, -1B64/P1, -1B64/P2, -1B67, -1B67/P1, -1B67/P2, -1B70, -1B70/75/P1, -1B70/75/P2, -1B70/P1, -1B70/P2, -1B70C/P1, -1B70C/P2, -1B74/75/P1, -1B74/75/P2, -1B76A/P2 |
This Service Bulletin is applicable to all GEnx-1B engines. |
The pressure sensor VIN 508486-1 (P/N 2125M60P01) is affected by this Service Bulletin. |
B. | Description |
This Service Bulletin introduces new pressure sensor VIN 516983-1 (P/N 2621M76P01) for the main fuel oil heat exchanger location and as an alternate for the fuel filter and fuel pump strainer locations. |
NOTE: |
|
C. | Compliance |
Category 7 |
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's option. |
Impact E |
This recommendation is to improve the cost of ownership, reduce maintenance requirements or is a product improvement. |
NOTE: |
|
D. | Concurrent Requirements |
None. |
E. | Reason |
(1) | Objective: |
To introduce new parts. |
(2) | Condition: |
The original pressure sensor P/N 2125M60P01, introduced with the main fuel oil heat exchanger (GEnx-1B S/B 79-0018), was not robust for this location. The modified pressure sensor P/N 2638M05P01, was then released as a containment action (GEnx-1B S/B 73-0039). |
(3) | Cause: |
Higher than expected delta pressures (measured at the high side and low side of the heat exchanger bypass valve) may damage the sensing chip inside the pressure sensor. |
(4) | Improvement: |
The new pressure sensor incorporates pressure attenuators that are similar to the current pressure sensor P/N 2638M05P01, as well as an increase in the pressures sensor's static capability to 240 psid. |
The attenuators address the fuel system high frequency (above 400 Hz) pressure pulsations and the increased delta pressure capability (240 psid static), this ensures that the design will withstand any low frequency pressure spikes. |
(5) | Substantiation: |
Substantiation is by comparative analysis. |
F. | Approval |
The data contained in this Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the appropriate governmental authority and the repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the applicable Aviation Regulations and are APPROVED for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service Bulletin. |
G. | Manpower |
After you get access to the pressure sensor, you will need approximately 0.5 man-hour for each engine or component. |
H. | Weight and Balance |
Weight and balance are not changed. |
