1 . General.
A.This procedure gives instructions to clean the interstage seal. Keep this part with the related parts by engine serial number for inspection and assembly. Refer to Figure 601 and Figure 602.

B.There are two configurations for the interstage seals. Refer to Figure 601 and Figure 602 and as follows:
Configuration 1 interstage seals (02-170A , 72-53-00) (SIN 150B3) and (02-170B , 72-53-00) (SIN 150B3) do not have a corrosion resistant coating on the outer rim surfaces of the interstage seal.
Configuration 2 interstage seals (02-170 , 72-53-00) (SIN 150B3) and (02-170C , 72-53-00) (SIN 150B3) have a corrosion resistant coating on the outer rim surfaces of the interstage seal.

(1)Alternative Procedures Available. Heavy-duty alkaline clean the interstage seal. Refer to TASK 70-21-06-110-004 (CLEANING METHOD NO. 6 HEAVY-DUTY ALKALINE CLEANER (WITHOUT INHIBITED PHOSPHORIC ACID)).

(1).A.Alternative Procedure. Four-step alkaline clean and acidic descale the interstage seal. Refer to TASK 70-21-10-110-008 (CLEANING METHOD NO. 10 FOUR-STEP ALKALINE CLEANING AND ACIDIC DESCALING (WITHOUT INHIBITED PHOSPHORIC ACID)).

(1).B.Alternative Procedure. Four-step alkaline clean and acidic descale the interstage seal. Refer to TASK 70-21-20-110-038 (CLEANING METHOD NO. 20 FOUR-STEP ALKALINE CLEANING AND ACIDIC DESCALING (WITH INHIBITED PHOSPHORIC ACID)).

(2)Alternative Procedure Available. If the initial procedure does not remove all unwanted material, wet abrasive blast clean the interstage seal. Refer to TASK 70-21-05-120-B02 (CLEANING METHOD NO. 5 - WET ABBRASIVE BLAST CLEANING (METHOD 5B)). Use C04-112   Abrasive Compound, 500 Mesh.
